Democrats are desperate to find dirt on President Trump in any way now that the Mueller report failed. Democrats decided to circle back around to demanding for the President’s Tax returns.
Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal who is the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committeesent a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig. The letter stated Neal wanted to investigate the IRS to make sure they are following through with their process.
Neal wrote,“Little is known about the effectiveness of this program. On behalf of the American people, the Ways and Means Committee must determine if that policy is being followed, and, if so, whether these audits are conducted fully and appropriately.”
Neal attempted to claim this was not about politics and is a non partisan issue. Even though he never cared about a politicians tax returns until Trump.
Neal stated, “This request is about policy, not politics; my preparations were made on my own track and timeline, entirely independent of other activities in Congress and the Administration. My actions reflect an abiding reverence for our democracy and our institutions, and are in no way based on emotion of the moment or partisanship.”
President Trump is currently being audited and it would be a dumb move legally for him to release his tax returns while in a fight with the IRS. Trump’s lawyers are likely the ones who are advising him not to release do to the fact it may harm their legal cases with the IRS.
