On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell went to the floor to announce he will not support nor pass the Democrats passed bill to end Government shutdown. McConnell stated the bill is a “non-starter” and Democrats need to “get serious about border security.”

During his speech, McConnell announced Democrats only passed the bill in the House and you need all three branches to pass, which includes the Senate and President signature. In order to pass the bill in the Senate they will need 60 votes, and that is not a good sign for Democrats considering the Republicans hold the majority.

McConnell: “All three of these things are needed. One partisan vote in the House tomorrow won’t solve anything. The legislation that House Democrats are reportedly planning to introduce would not be a serious contribution to these negotiations.”

McConnell: “It isn’t comprehensive. It ignores the needs of border security. It’s exactly the kind of proposal you’d expect if the incoming House Democrats were choosing to stage a political sideshow rather than do the hard work of helping to govern the country. A total non-starter.”
