On Thursday Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated nine people were arrested for orchestrating an illegal voting scheme in the city of Edinburg in the Rio Grande Valley.

Nine people were arrested by the attorney general’s Election Fraud Unit. According to Paxton’s Office, This was following an ongoing probe into “a coordinated effort by political workers to recruit people who agree to fraudulently claim residential addresses so they could vote in specific city of Edinburg municipal races.”

Paxton stated, “Illegal voting, particularly an organized illegal voting scheme orchestrated by political operatives, is an affront to democracy and results in corruption at the highest level. Each illegal vote silences the voice of a law-abiding registered voter.”

The nine individuals were identified by Paxton as Guadalupe Sanchez Garza, Araceli Gutierrez, Brenda Rodriguez, Rosendo Rodriguez, Cynthia Tamez, Ruby Tamez, Belinda Rodriguez, Felisha Yolanda Rodriguez and Jerry Gonzalez, Jr.

Paxton claimed they are expecting to have more future arrests involved in these schemes.

Paxton continued, “My office will continue to do everything in its power to uncover illegal voting schemes and bring to justice those who try to manipulate the outcome of elections in Texas.”

Ken Paxton pointed out in 2018 33 people have been prosecuted for election fraud in the State of Texas. Paxton’s Office established that voting fraud is a second-degree felony with a punishment of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
