Monday night President Trump made his nomination official, announcing federal Judge Brett Kavanaugh as Anthony Kennedy replacement. Brett Kavanaugh is 53 years old and a former aide to George W. Bush.

This was a blown opportunity by the Trump administration to pick a strong constitutional originalist. Amy Coney Barret or Mike Lee would have been the best picks for protection of the constitution. I have stated in a recent article my concerns with Brett Kavanaugh,

“Kavanaugh would be the worst option for all conservatives if he becomes the nomination pick. He is not a strong Conservative and is willing to float to the Left on many stances. Kavanaugh worked with the Bush administration and even ruled in favor of Obamacare in a case he handled. Which the case on Obamacare Kavanaugh’s ruling was dead wrong because he ruled it is not a government overreach to penalize individuals who don’t get insurance, due to the fact the perceived penalty was a tax.”

However, Kavanaugh is the nomination and there are concerns I have, but it is time to get behind him and hope he upholds the Constitution. Donald Trump stated on how he concluded his pick,

“In keeping with President Reagan’s legacy, I do not ask about a nominee’s personal opinions,” Trump said at the announcement. “What matters is not a judge’s political views, but whether they can set aside those views to do what the law and the Constitution require.”

Also, Ted Cruz who is one of the strictest Constitutional Originalist stated his opinion on Brett Kavanaugh:

“By any measure, Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most respected federal judges in the country and I look forward to supporting his nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States. For over a decade, Judge Kavanaugh has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, often referred to as the second highest court in the land. He has over 300 published opinions, with a strong record of defending the Second Amendment, safeguarding the separation of powers, reining in the unchecked power of federal agencies, and preserving our precious religious liberties.”

Cruz Continued,

“Senate Democrats, sadly, will try to demagogue this nomination, but their efforts will not be successful. I am confident that the Senate will take up his nomination quickly, and I fully expect that he will be confirmed before the first Monday in October, the beginning of the Supreme Court’s Term. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I look forward to his confirmation hearing, where Judge Kavanaugh will have the opportunity to demonstrate to the American people that he will uphold the rule of law and interpret the Constitution according to its original meaning. #SCOTUS”

Since Ted Cruz is supporting Brett Kavanagh then he may end up being a good nomination to protect the Constitution.
